  中国古代

,在中国古代已是时间单位。最初分一昼夜为100刻,即一刻為14.4分钟(即14分钟24秒),如在许慎的《说文解字》中說到“漏以铜壶盛水,刻节,昼夜百刻。”但因100不能被12(一天的时辰数)整除,后来一昼夜被先后改为96,108,120刻,到清代才正式定一昼夜为96刻,使一刻成為15分钟。

  英语地区

英语中至今仍普遍采用“Quarter”(即1/4)一词表示1/4个小时,即15分钟,恰与“刻”相对应。

  粵方言區

“刻”今日於粵方言區已很少用,而被「字」(即5分鐘)所取代,稱一刻為「三個字」。

Lettris is a curious tetris-clone game where all the bricks have the same square shape but different content. Each square carries a letter. To make squares disappear and save space for other squares you have to assemble English words (left, right, up, down) from the falling squares.
