Background

Steffy, named after her paternal grandmother Stephanie, was born to Ridge Forrester and Taylor Hayes on September 21, 1999, along with her fraternal twin sister Phoebe who was born a few minutes after Steffy. Their mother suffered from tuberculosis during the pregnancy, but survived the complicated delivery. Ridge, her father, was actually the son of businessman Massimo Marone after Stephanie, her grandmother, tried to hide the pregnancy from Eric Forrester to keep him from Beth Logan, the love of his life at the time. After Eric discovered the truth many years later he still concidered Ridge as his son. Steffy, who is older, is the more practical, devious, logical and less emotional of the twins. Phoebe was more sensitive and romantic like Brooke Logan while Steffy carried more of her mother and grandmother's trait, Taylor Hayes and Stephanie Forrester. She tends to think things through rather than acting on emotion. So any sudden love emotional sudden attachment usually involves an agenda, and sometimes that turns out to be a bad thing.

Storylines

Early years

In February 2001, Ridge and Taylor took the twins and their older brother Thomas to Saint Thomas where they renewed their wedding vows. Later the family, along with the babysitter Catherine, took a boat trip, and two-year-old Steffy fell overboard during stormy weather and was presumed eaten by sharks. However, Steffy turned up weeks later at Morgan DeWitt's house. Morgan, an old flame of Ridge's who desperately wanted to have his child, had kidnapped her and was holding her captive. Taylor grew suspicious of Morgan and was shocked to discover Steffy in her house. As Taylor was about to take her daughter home, Morgan returned and held them both captive. Ridge eventually saved his wife and child by driving his car through Morgan's house as she was about to shoot Taylor. Morgan was eventually committed to a psychiatric institution.

Later when Taylor was presumed dead after being shot by Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown), Steffy and her siblings were raised by Ridge and Brooke. After it was discovered that Taylor was actually alive, the twins and their brother Thomas were tearfully reunited with their mother. Steffy and her sister later went to boarding school in London, England. While Phoebe returned to Los Angeles in July 2006 to see her family, Steffy decided to stay overseas and continue her schooling.

In June 2008, however, she returned at her father's request & took a car to Forrester Creations to see her father Ridge, working.

Return to Forrester

At Ridge's request she returned to California. She started working in the shipping and receiving department of Forrester Creations, willing to work her way up the way her father had. On her first day, she met Donna Logan's son Marcus Walton and explained the personalities of all the Forresters, not revealing her heritage to him. Eventually, Steffy was enlisted by her troublesome great-aunt, Pamela, to check into Marcus' background, discovering that his mother is in fact Donna Logan. Steffy promises Marcus to keep his maternity a secret, but this conversation is overheard by her sister Phoebe. Phoebe later reveals this to their father. This has slightly strained relations between her, Phoebe and Ridge. Phoebe and Ridge insist that Steffy stay clear of Marcus, because his mother is Ridge's enemy but Steffy, for once acting on her own heart doesn't hold the fact that Donna is his mother against him.

Despite this, however, Steffy may find her loyalties divided once she discovers that her father, her Uncle Thorne and her Aunt Felicia were fired by her spiteful step-grandmother, Donna Forrester, acting as Eric's power of attorney. This could also change the relationship between Marcus and Steffy, as he is now her boss. Justifiably, Steffy was livid with Marcus over his mother's heavy-handed antics, although he is trying to convince her that he had no idea she was pulling the stunts that she was pulling. The two tried to find something incriminating on Owen Knight, Donna's new assistant, but they could find nothing. Steffy was understandably upset that Donna was pulling the strings at her family's company, but Marcus calmed her down with a kiss, their second as a couple. Marcus finally convinced Donna to fire the untrustworthy Owen, and in a celebratory mood, he and Steffy drove to the beach for a day of fun.

Later romances

When Eric announced that Rick was the new president of Forrester Creations Steffy felt sorry for her father while Marcus was overjoyed at the chance Rick had gotten. She is grieving the loss of Phoebe, who was tragically killed in a car accident on the night of her father's wedding rehearsal dinner. During the night, her twin's sense let her know something was dreadfully wrong, and then she realized from her father's grief, that she had lost her twin sister. After seeing her sister's corpse in the hospital morgue, Steffy almost injured herself by trying to reconnect with her. Ridge gently talked her down, and comforted her as she sobbed and nervously called 911. She and Rick then found out that they were indeed attracted to one another. Eventually she and Rick were engaged. She wanted to marry Rick (without the parents finding out). Eventually though, Steffy found out that his words of love were real, as her mother, Taylor, had her booked in for a 30-minute private therapy session. She was so angered and so embarrassed at the words that he had said about her and her father, which were quite honest, that she accepted an engagement ring & Rick proposed to Steffy if she wanted to marry him & she said "Yes!" She then moved out of the beach house, and back in with her mother. This helped bond her with her family once more & she travels to work in a BMW X5. She also agrees to become a model for Forrester Creations as her first job. She also goes to the beach in her bikini if she ever gets any time away from Ridge's care or Taylor's motherly concern.

Rick and Steffy eventually break up, and she is once more single. Steffy flirts with Owen Knight who is currently married to Jackie Marone. She soon turns her attention to Bill Spencer, who is now married to Katie Logan.

The Dare Fiasco

Steffy worked along with her father Ridge and Eric Forrester (her adoptive grandfather) to bring Bill Spencer down by ruining the next fashion show by displaying designs from the 80's. Katie Logan Spencer revealed the plan to Bill after she pressured Brooke, her sister, to be honest about what her husband and his father were doing. Bill compared Donna Forrester and Brooke Forrester to having the nature of tramps and accuses them of doing nothing for the company even though Brooke came up with the "Belief" Formula and had been CEO for years that made the company a success.

After Bill left Steffy agreed with him and called Brooke and Donna tramps also. And stated that the company was doing well as long as Stephanie Forrester, her grandmother, was there helping to run the company. She was sick and tired of the Logan influence and that she hates the Logans. Steffy also stated before they met Bill in his office that Katie wasn't even his type. And she didn't know what he even saw in her.

After this news comes as a shock to the Forresters, Katie goes to confront Bill on the way he treated her sisters and walks out on him in the rain after he states that he wants her to have nothing to do with her sisters Brooke and Donna. Steffy then comes by and even though he makes it clear that he sees her as a little girl and he's not interested in her, he plants a kiss on her once he receives a text message from Katie stating she's staying with her sisters for the night. After he kisses Steffy he fails to see the last part of Katie's text message: "I love you."
